the view is much nicer

the break, a welcome relief

but the work never stops

it’s hard to not feel defeat

i’ll pretend to be out of office

for just a few days

pretend my woes are out to lunch

that i can actually catch a break

“I can tell it’s going to be a great trip,

I’m so happy we’re here.”

so am I,

you nod in agreement

then vow it’s going to be a different year.

yeah, things aren’t great

and you’ve both been through a lot

but, as they say things could be worse
