The May Whimsy Report
people, places, and things making the world more bearable
Can you believe it, we’re already halfway through May? Summer break is right around the corner and Mom’s are in the dreaded Maycember1 consisting of Open House, Teacher Appreciation Week, summer camp sign up, Mother’s Day, final projects, etc, etc. On top of all that, this Mama “decided” to return back to an in-office job after three whole years! All the more reason to create more whimsical moments.
Hooray for Hollywood 🎬
Not only am I thrilled to be working on the Paramount Lot2 for the first time in my career, but this month Hollywood hosted the TCM Fest, and my son and I spent the day exploring our native land.3
Between Cannes, summer movie season, a new WGA contract, resolution to the WGSU strike, projects moving back to L.A. for filming: we are celebrating everything silver and small screen this month.

Feel Good To-Do: Summer Bucket List ✅
With summer thisclose, my son and I decided to make our summer bucket list— a fun activity for the whole family! This year, Target helped us out with this $5 find and we spent a morning brainstorming our “first half” goals / aspirations.
Ready to create your own bucket list? Here’s some prompts to get you started:
-Something fun
-A “vacation”
-Something productive
-A skill you want to improve
-Something physical
-Anything water-related
And because I love you all so much, here’s another free printable for this month featuring a summer checklist for the kiddos. There’s a filled-out version for inspo, and a blank version to make your own (and it doesn’t have to be JUST for kiddos!)
What to Watch 📺
Beef S2
Streaming on Netflix
Please don’t take my WGA card, but I didn’t watch S1 and jumped straight into S2 because 1) it’s an anthology show and 2) you’re not the boss of me. I’m only a few episodes in, but I’ll watch anything Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan do (Inside Llewyn Davis hive rise up!) and Charles Melton is becoming a favorite. It’s intense, it’s visually stunning, it tackles complicated characters doing questionable things, it’s got fantastic needle drops. It’s worth watching.
Hacks
HBO Max / Thursdays
I’ve been a fan of this show since season 1, and adding Robby Hoffman to the cast last year was a stroke of genius I’d expect from this great group. It’s felt a little “inside baseball” to watch both “The Comeback” and “Hacks” as they are both tackling the very real and relatable trials and tribulations of being a woman in Hollywood. If this is indeed the final season, I’ll be milking it for as long as I can.
Off-Campus
Streaming on Prime starting May 13
Some of the nicest and most talented writers I know worked on this college romance between a Hockey player (Heated Rivalry fans, I’m looking at you!) and a music student. I’m going to bet there’s some longing, drama, and “aww-worthy” moments.
Trouble in Paradise
Rent on Prime/Criterion
The TCM Fest recently played this iconic pre-code movie, but my son didn’t even want to see Paul Williams intro The Muppets, so I couldn’t make it happen. The description is delicious: A gentleman thief and a lady pickpocket join forces to con the owner of a perfume manufacturer, but romantic entanglements and jealousies confuse the scheme.
It’s Not Like That
Amazon Prime May 15!
All episodes are now streaming globally on Prime starting May 15!
May Recipe Roundup 👩🍳
My oven hasn’t been working since January and instead of hiring someone to fix it, my landlord tried to fix it herself and my oven door is now on the patio and it’s been three weeks since I’ve been able to use it. So… no new recipes to share this month.
Crush of the Month 💗
He’s engaged to Zoe Kravitz, gave us a Mother’s Day anthem, and those slutty little shorts are signaling the start of summer. Congratulations, Harry Styles on continuing to be so crushable and giving us killer chereo.
It’s in the Stars ✨
May started off with a literal bang and a Scorpio full moon that illuminated anything that wasn’t working. It also serves as a reminder of the things that are working— a culmination of some sorts.
For example, the day of the scorpio full moon, I had a last-minute interview that I ended up getting, was rejected by a dream (emmy winning) show, and was appointed to an honorary position— three big career moves that all happened on the SAME day after almost a year of barely any movement. I wasn’t the only thing that had big moments that day. Look at what took place that week and see how it’s launched the latter half of the month for you.
Building from that Taurus energy, there’s a lot of social exchanges coming in the back-half of the month. Have an uneasy feeling around someone? Try and stay clear as best you can. Find your allies and stay in your lane… the bumps will get smoothed out soon.

Parting Thoughts 💭
If you’re not a subscriber yet, there’s no better time than now! For just $5/month (I know, less than a cup of coffee), you help me pay my bills, volunteer in my community, and be a more present mother to my son, while also giving me time to write and focus on my own projects… so, thank you 🙏
Hope you find some of your own whimsy in May. Let me know what’s bringing you joy, and if there’s anything you’d like to see for next month!
Until next time! Remember to be kind, but take no sh*t. xx
I think this gives me a Hollywood lot “Yahtzee” since I’ve now worked on every lot except Sony/Amazon, which I did have a meeting at, so I technically count it.
3rd and 4th generation L.A. babies, thankyouverymuch
