“you’re so strong”
“you’re so brave”
“you’re a hero”
“I could never do what you do”
These may seem like compliments
and maybe for some, that’s true…
But to say these thing to a single mother
That simply will not do
There won’t be little hands making breakfast
Or store-bought packages wrapped with care
The second Sunday in May
Is just another day, I’m very sorry to say
You’re still the one in charge
Even though you’re the one who needs care
But you have one thing no one else does
Which is you’re always there
So, what might be better to say instead?
(On Mother’s Day, but any day, too…)
“What can I do?”
“You inspire me”
“I hope you can stay in bed”
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. Sending love to those who need it.
