the weekly rundown 5.12.25
mother's day recap, reading lists, intentions, and the most delightful/puzzling mash-up on Glee?!
Welcome to another week, everyone! How are we holding up? Almost everyone I talked to last week felt the heaviness at the start of the week, then just made way to chaos. I hope everyone was still able to find moments of calm and clarity (especially the moms).
Mother’s Day 💕
I was very grateful to give my mother her “perfect gift” this year— my son and I waking up under her roof on mother’s day morning. We had a low key and special brunch together. Later, my son (and dog son) went to a local restaurant for people-watching, dinner, and a cocktail (me).
However, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention how much I *loathe* these mainly “capitalism holidays.” I celebrate and am grateful for my amazing mother almost every day— and my son also makes me feel celebrated and appreciated. Do we really need to post something on social media or spend money on things we don’t need to prove that? I don’t think so. Besides, we all know what mothers really want these days…
Reading 📖
Emily Perl Kingsley’s “Welcome to Holland” is such a beautiful piece about mourning a life we thought we’d lead: Welcome to Holland
This month’s book pick is Hazel Hayes’s “Better by Far.” It’s pretty heavy poolside reading, just fyi 😎
Intention ✨
Get ready, because the Scorpio full moon is coming and she’s going to be a bitch tonight! But like all moody geniuses, it’s going to come with a dose of inspiration. So, fire up those blank pages and canvases and get to work, loves!
This week, I will inspire.
Enjoying 🤩
I had the privilege of recently re-watching this ICONIC scene from Glee that will go down as one of the most delightfully puzzling remixes.
My kingdom for the kitsch of these times. Enjoy!
What do we think? Perfect? I thought so…
Have a great week, everyone! Be kind, but take no sh*t.
The guilt-free time off is pretty much impossible without the accessible childcare....
I like that Holland essay. I guess in my case, we planned for Italy, but landed at one of its islands. I think the kiddo is more resilient for it. And if resilience isn't on the list of traits one wishes for their child, well... I probably don't have much in common with them! So I'm happy to be on the island.
Glad you had a nice mother's day -- even if it's a made-up holiday, the sentiment (and scheduled time to celebrate said sentiment) are what counts! I doubt I'd make the time for myself, otherwise. I used it as an excuse to watch Cary Grant movies all day.
